Dear Conestoga Members:
It is tough to believe it is October! On behalf of the Board of Governors (BOG), I want to thank the club staff for a wonderful summer. Despite inconsistent weather conditions, including two floods, Matt and his team kept the course in terrific condition. Jon, Christian, and their teams gave us many incredible events (the outdoor grill by the 19th Hole was especially popular and the Flavors at Sunset was one of the best events I have attended in my 12 years at the Club). Robert and the golf team ran several great golf events, and our women’s and junior golf programs continue to grow. Most importantly, I want to thank Jon, Robert, and Betty Ann Wood (our pool manager) for an incredible pool season. After what can best be described as a “challenging” 2024 season, mainly due to the failing water pump, the 2025 pool season exceeded everyone’s expectations, which is evidenced by the increase in pool usage, guest fees, and revenue at the bar and café. Finally, I want to thank the membership for their continued support. The reason we have been able to increase the number, type, and size of our events is because the membership has made using the Club a priority, and with this continued support, I am positive that Conestoga will continue to grow and improve the membership experience.
When I wrote to you back in June, I told you the BOG was working on a strategic plan for the Club, and that we planned to hold a membership happy hour this Fall to share our thoughts. You should have received an invitation to the “Shaping Tomorrow Together Happy Hour” on Wednesday, October 15th at the Club, and I am encouraging members from all membership categories to attend the event. Under the leadership of Cathy Bonser, the chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, the BOG has been looking at the various needs of the Club and has assembled a list of projects that it would like to share with the membership. These projects relate to all aspects of club life, not just the golf course, so it is important that we get feedback from all membership categories. Following the happy hour, we will be sending out a survey to the members across all membership categories to gauge their support for the various projects. The BOG will use the survey results to finalize a strategic plan that it will bring to the membership at a special meeting in November and will ask the membership to vote on the strategic plan following that meeting.
Many members have spoken to me over the past few months about this process and have given me thoughtful feedback. Much of this feedback has been incorporated into our current plan. This happy hour is an opportunity for the membership to have an open interaction with the BOG on the vision for the Club’s future, and I look forward to the discussion.
I hope to see everyone on October 15th (please RSVP so Jon and his team can get an accurate headcount)!!
